Blake Grossman Former CEO, Barclays Global Investors

Blake was CIO and then Global CEO of Barclays Global Investors (“BGI”), a leading quantitative equity firm, before its acquisition by BlackRock in 2009. It was at BGI that Blake first became aware of Jonathan Briggs as a quant equity investor. Post-acquisition, Blake became Vice Chairman, Head of Scientific Investments at BlackRock. He is now a partner at ThirdStream Partners, specializing in fintech and asset management innovation. Blake has an M.A. in Economics from Stanford University.

Jason Beverage Former CIO, Two Sigma Advisers

Jason joined Two Sigma as its 15th employee, was promoted to MD in 2008 and spearheaded creation of the firm’s Alpha Capture business. He then served as CIO of the firm’s $15B+ asset management division. He ultimately became a research director and joined the firm’s leadership team, which oversees all quant research. Jason began his education at West Point and transferred to University of Virginia, graduating with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.

Mark is co-founder of Intrepid Growth Partners, a growth equity fund specializing in machine learning investments. Previously, Mark was President & CEO of CPPIB, where Jonathan Briggs led quantitative investments. Mark was a partner and Head of Asia Pacific Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs. Mark has a degree in Physiological Sciences from Oxford University.

John McCormick Chief Executive Officer

John was Global Group Head of Blackstone Alternative Asset Management, the $82B investment division of the Blackstone Group with investments across the quantitative hedge fund landscape. John also launched Blackstone’s industry-leading data science and AI group. After BAAM, John created a curriculum at Yale Law School focused on data science and emerging technologies. Earlier in his career, John was an Associate Principal at McKinsey & Company, an associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell, and worked at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. John has a J.D. from Yale Law School and a B.A. from Vassar College.

Jonathan Briggs Chief Investment Officer

Jonathan began his quantitative investing career at Barclays Global Investors (“BGI”), then a leading quantitative investment firm with intellectual leadership of Blake Grossman, Richard Grinold & Ron Kahn. Upon BGI’s acquisition by Blackrock, JB moved to CPPIB, where he  was the head of implementation research for systematic macro strategies and then head of quantitative alpha research for equities.  Ultimately JB ran CPPIB’s Alpha Generation Lab before becoming a partner at Delphia. JB has a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.S. from Dartmouth, and a B.S. from the California Institute of Technology.

Michael Bender Chief Financial Officer

Michael has 25+ years of alternatives financial management experience, most recently as a partner at TPG Angelo Gordon. Michael was CFO for various private credit investment strategies with responsibility for approximately $30B of AUM. Michael was previously a Senior Manager in Financial Services Audit at BDO Seidman LLP covering investment companies, management companies, broker dealers, and leading quantitative investment firms. Michael has a B.B.A. in Accounting from Baruch College. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a CFA Charterholder.

Brian Wignall Head of Portfolio Management and Implementation Research

Brian was a Senior Portfolio Manager at Two Sigma. Over his nearly six-year career at Two Sigma, Brian oversaw multi-billion-dollar cash equity portfolios and was responsible for evaluating proposed new alpha strategies and risk allocations. Brian has worked in senior investment leadership roles at two early-stage quant equity startups, where he was involved in all aspects of the investment process. Earlier in his career, Brian worked on Morgan Stanley’s sell-side trading desk. Brian has a Ph.D. in Statistics and Applied Probability and an M.A. in Mathematical Statistics from UC, Santa Barbara and a B.S. in Physics from UT, Austin.

Omid Namvar Director of Quantitative Research

Omid Namvar was a Portfolio Manager in Active Equities at CPP Investments where he implemented and ran systematic market-neutral strategies leveraging machine learning and statistical techniques with traditional and alternative data. He holds a Ph.D. in Statistical Signal Processing from the University of British Columbia, where he had a four-year Doctoral Fellowship, and completed post-doctoral work in Mathematical Finance at the University of Toronto, where he held an NSERC Fellowship.

Alvin Au Machine Learning Engineer

Alvin was previously a Quantitative Developer at Delphia and a Senior Data Scientist at Radar. Alvin has designed multiple apps, and has a wide-ranging skill set across data science, machine learning, and data engineering. He holds a Masters in Mathematics and a Bachelors in Actuarial Science & Statistics from the University of Waterloo.

Harry Yi Li Quantitative Researcher

Harry was a Senior Data Scientist and Quantitative Researcher at Delphia. Previously, Harry held positions at the University of Toronto as a Graduate Researcher and a Graduate Teaching Assistant, specializing in climate modeling and data mining. He has a Bachelors in Physics from Nanjing University and a Master of Science in Physics and a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Physics and Dynamics from the University of Toronto.

Larissa Kirkwood Executive Assistant

Larissa was an Executive Assistant at Delphia, providing operational support to the C-suite. Previously, she has supported partners in venture capital and brokers in real estate asset management with leading roles in operations, business development, project management, and marketing. Larissa holds a BFA in Graphic Design from Colorado State University.

Serena McDonnell Quantitative Researcher

Serena was a Machine Learning Researcher at Aggregate Intellect and a Senior Data Scientist at Shopify. Previously she was a Senior Data Scientist and Quantitative Researcher at Delphia. In 2022, she was named on the list of the Top 25 Women in AI: Canada and in 2023, she was named in the Top 100 Women Advancing AI by Re:Work. Serena holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics and Biology from McGill University and a M.Sc. in Mathematics from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Tom Edwards Portfolio Manager

Tom was a partner and co-founder at Curvature Hedge Strategies. His primary responsibility, as Portfolio Manager and Head of Quantitative Strategies, was managing Curvature’s market-neutral systematic equity strategy. Additionally, he assisted in managing Curvature’s Fundamental, Merger Arbitrage, and Convertible Arbitrage sub-strategies. Before launching Curvature, Tom worked on the proprietary trading desk at Canaccord Genuity and began his career at Manulife Investments. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Guelph and is a CFA Charterholder.

Zhuo Cheng Du Portfolio Engineer

Zhuo was a software engineer at Delphia’s portfolio management team. Previously he worked at Cohesity, a company specializing in secondary data protection services. He has also built various applications including Chrome extensions that gathered over 100,000 active users. Zhuo holds a B.Eng in Software Engineering from McGill University.
